Dr. Shahbaz, welcome to Abbabeel, please tell us, how you became Dr. Lee, it's a quite attractive name.
In my MBBS class we were two students with same name Muhammad Shahbaz, so the Professor gave me name Shahbaz Ali and later to shorten it as Li, Dr. Lee. Li Daifu Li Boshi, and some of them call me Shah Boshi, Dr. Shah.
People would like to know how and when your journey started in China?
In 2006 on 12th February, I first time came to China and my father Haji Abdul Sattar, and Uncle (Late) Haji Abdul Aziz let me choose China for higher studies in field of Medicine at Shandong University School of Medicine. A lot of Professors specially Prof. Liu Zhiyu, Prof. Jia Jihui, Professor Niu Jun, Prof. Liu Shuwei, Prof. Sun Jinhao, Prof. Ding Zhaoxi, Prof. Zhou Huan & Prof. Yu Dexin, MD CPMA Li jin and Mr. Pan Wen, General Secretary BRMA, guided me and let me have a broader vision to achieve the excellence in medical field. My parents, my wife & family members and friends always encouraged me and supported me in the difficult times.
As we all know you are the President of China Pakistan Medical Association, how did you get this idea?
Prof. Niu Jun & Prof. Jia Jihui guided me to initiate the China Pakistan Medical Association to provide a unique platform for the medical students of Pakistan studying in China. In 2017, I was invited to the Summit of Global Health Leaders “where I put forward the concept of “Health Silk Road” and “China Pakistan Health Corridor”. In December 2020, for promoting the China Pakistan Healthcare cooperation, I was awarded “Ambassador of Silk Road Friendship” Award by Chinese Government.
We know you are a man of passion and goals, share with us, what are these goals?
My main mission is to provide the basic healthcare facilities in the remote areas of Pakistan where the common people have no access to specialized healthcare. Specially in the remote mountainous, desert and villages of Pakistan providing the basic healthcare facilities via mobile hospitals, diagnostic facilities for cancer, & maternal & childcare.
The goals are to set up the state-of-the-art regional healthcare centers across belt and road countries starting from Pakistan by building the healthcare infrastructure along the CPEC and highways connected via telemedicine & mobile hospitals. Another goal is to work on medical hi-tech technology transfer specially the Cancer treatment radiation therapy centers, FDS consortium Neutron therapy systems, digital medicine, Vaccine research & production, advanced clinical trials, and research labs in Pakistan. Digitalize the Pakistan healthcare system, so by just swapping the CNIC one can track his/her medical history and treatment data and decreasing the malpractice. As Pakistan population is rapidly growing and for 250 million people, 909 people have access to one doctor and 7000 people have access to only one specialist doctor. The goal is to set up new hospitals and advanced healthcare facilities with international standards in each and every part of Pakistan.
To provide CPMA platform for the Pakistan medical students & graduates to find the future pathways to get scholarships, get advanced training and jobs in Developed countries and even return to Pakistan to pass PMDC exams and part of Pakistan Health system by proceeding for Specialization via CPSP.
Great idea and we pray for your success in achieving these goals, please suggest something to young doctors coming to China?
Young doctors who are coming or planning to come to China need to set their goals high and keep in mind that “Position at the top is always empty”. Its always the motivation and consistency to achieve the goals in life. Young doctors need to study hard and learn Chinese language to improve the communication skills it will help during the internship in hospital to communicate with Chinese doctors and patients in hospital. Another important point is to obey the Chinese laws and rules, always keep a good society and keep faith and practice Islam. Keep in contact with family members and never indulge in illegal business and activities which divert your attention and future goals. During the final years of MBBS start preparing for PMDC and other international exams and right after graduation come back to Pakistan to pass the PMDC exam and serve your nation. As I mentioned we need more doctors in Pakistan, I wish you best of luck & welcome you to be member of CPMA and bring a positive change to the peoples of Pakistan.
Thank you, Dr. Lee, hope these young Doctors can reach you directly in case of any question, or if they need your guidance.
